The objects of the cio are, for the benefit of the public:(1) to advance education in the arts and in particular (but not exclusively) the lives and works of lee miller and roland penrose and their associates, in such ways as the charity trustees think fit, and consider to be commensurate with the artistic and humanitarian principles of those artists, including by:(a) the establishment and maintenance of the art galleries and the sculpture garden and associated land and buildings at farleys house & gallery, chiddingly, east sussex;(b) the conservation and dissemination to the public of the works in all forms and media of lee miller, roland penrose and their associates, including the collection of historic photographs, papers and ephemera known as the lee miller archives and the collection of artworks established by roland penrose and known as the penrose collection;(c) promoting or assisting in the provision of art exhibitions, performances, workshops and/or other arts educational activities at the cio’s own venues and at other external venues, and the publication of arts educational books, podcasts and other educational materials;(d) promoting study and research in topics relating to the lives and works of lee miller and roland penrose and the publication of the useful results of such research; and (e) using the lives and experiences of lee miller and roland penrose and their associates in educational contexts to raise awareness and engage the public in wider issues around women’s rights, and better understanding of mental health conditions and hidden illnesses such as ptsd, depression and surviving rape.(2) to preserve, improve, maintain, restore and repair the grade ii listed building farley farmhouse, chiddingly, east sussex (historic england list entry number 1043311) and to promote the study and appreciation of the building as a place of historic significance.
